Suspensions
are designed to enhance off-road performance by maximizing flexibility, axle articulation and wheel travel. Suspension systems best meet the needs of
the off-road Jeep® owner expecting his vehicle to perform well on the trail and on the highway. With new lifted springs from 2" to 4"
and new shocks you have a combined unit for the best in off-road performance, control, handling, comfort
and good looks
CJ & YJ suspensions are the leaf spring type,
located under solid axles front and rear.
TJ, ZJ and WJ suspensions are coil springs located
on all four corners of the vehicle
The coil spring suspension has a particular advantage
for off-roading, as it eliminates possible problems common to leaf springs, such as axle wrap. Axle wrap has been addressed with such cures as spring
reversals, spring overs, trusses and torsion bars.
These modifications are of particular interest to the
off-roader or trail rider who is interested in testing his vehicle on medium to hard off-road conditions, such as deep mud, sand and rock crawling.
These off-road conditions dictate the lift, tires, wheels and other equipment necessary to achieve a well prepared off-road machine.
A suspension lift allows you to run bigger tires and
wheels for greater ground clearance and can give you a ramp score of 700 - 1000 RTI's. Your ultimate goal is to achieve good articulation and to
gain ground clearance, without giving up a good ride. Tire size is determined by the lift kit you choose, so it's a good idea to lay out a plan
to "build" your vehicle to assure the suspension you pick will meet your needs.
BDS® and Superlift® manufacture excellent lift kits for the CJ, YJ and FJ40
In our opinion, for the
Jeep Wrangler TJ, Cherokee XJ, Grand Cherokee ZJ and
WJ, the Teraflex® suspension systems can't be beat. Teraflex was the first
company to address the coil lift system on a Jeep TJ, their coil springs come in 2, 3 and 4" packages to prepare your rig for the toughest hills,
rocks, mud and sand conditions.
